  • Just discovered Cheesies, which are peanut sized balls of popped cheese. No carbs, no sugar, gluten free, vegetarian (vegetarian rennet used) and the sole ingredient is cheese. Instead of a base plus flavouring, they are made with the type of cheese eg Cheddar, Red Leicester, Gouda, Emmental and Goat's Cheese. 

    Because they are made from cheese, not potatoes, they are actually quite filling. 99p from Holland & Barrett or 9.99 for a box of 10 from Amazon. Offer codes on packs and in boxes for 15% off and 20% off if ordered direct, subsequently, at the moment. 

    If you like your snacks big, you won't like the size, but if you happily munch peanuts and raisins, you probably would. Being made from real cheese, they taste of.. cheese so if you don't like cheese, you won't like them. But if you love cheese, you'll probably love them.

    Part of the joy of crisps for me is that they are a cheap snack (remind me that they are rubbish, akin to the kind of snacks I would buy as a child). Somehow if it expensive I resist hoovering it up.

     Most crisps are fried in industrial seed oils, which aren't healthy. They are usually high in carbs and often don't resemble the food they are derived from, at all. They may have additives and colours, un-natural natural flavourings and aren't healthy at all. It's so easy to get into the snacking habit while watching TV and they put the kibosh on pretty much any type of diet. 

    DH has Walkers Salt & Shake crisps. He can add as much/little of the 0.60g salt sachet as he wants. Each 24g bag has 12.5g carbs, 1.5g protein, 1.1g fibre, 7.8g fat, 128 calories and just three ingredients - potatoes, sunflower oil and rapeseeed oil. Currently 2 multipacks eg total of 12 x24g bags is 2.50 at Iceland ie 1.25 per six pack, compared to Sainsbury's price of 1.70 Iceland price makes each bag just over 20p.

    I can resist crisps mostly, they can sit there for months and not bother me. My go-to snack for when I want a mindless crunch is carrot slices and celery.

    My favourites:
    Frazzles, Lidl Lentil curls, Ringos (or Tesco version of), Twiglets, Puft, chickpea sticks (from HB, can't remember the name), Skips. 
    And Pringles, though once I pop I most definitely cannot stop!
    Planning to get some Seabrook crisps next time I go food shopping, after all the rave reviews on this thread.
