Need I say more - except perhaps that changing their name won't clean up their past history!

I’d say you probably do need to say more, given the underlying business rumbles on as before but has simply rebranded.

It’s like saying “good riddance to Heinz” if Heinz suddenly changed their name to “Erkleman”....

Fred Goodwin might be sad but his £450,000 a year pension may cheer him a little bit.

Despite all the headlines, the Royal Bank of Scotland plc hasn't disappeared.  It's the holding company that's changed its name from The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc, to NatWest Group plc.  The actual trading bank, The Royal Bank of Scotland plc, is the one with the banking licence.  It is a subsidiary of the group, and it hasn't gone anywhere, it's still very much in existence.

They announced this to the markets in February and reconfirmed it last week so it's old news, but you can see why they might want to forget the old name that nearly collapsed in the financial crisis, and rename it to the brand that 80% of their customers use. I expect Nicola Sturgeon would prefer it to keep its Scotch name rather than give it up for something that's an abbreviation of Westminster

I still have some National Westminster Bank plc preference shares which pay a decent dividend. The ordinary shares have fallen again today, now not far from where they were back in April - perhaps because people can't find it to buy under the new ticker of NWG...

    It's still the same company.

A very different company.  Had some good people at the helm over the past decade or so.

It's actually more complicated than the holding company rename to NatWest group -

The current Royal Bank of Scotland plc actually used to be Adam and Company.plc
The old Royal Bank of Scotland plc is actually now called NatWest Markets plc

Which Royal Bank of Scotland do you mean?

It's not a *lot* more complicated than the holding company renamed to NatWest Group; that's what happened today, as explained by Earthboy's post four hours before yours. The thread title is missing the word 'Group'.

Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (the holding company that's listed on the stock exchange) changed its name to NatWest Group plc today. All the entities still exist and all the shares and bonds are still valid and guaranteed by the same companies. Just the name of the top company in the group has changed.

Except your thread says 'Good riddance Royal Bank of Scotland plc!' :D
