I have submitted another appeal to a different ticket/train appeals that I've been directed to so hopefully something will come from that. I'll keep you informed0 -
This case is nothing whatsoever to do with private parking issues. Maybe OP you should get some free legal advice over on the LegalBeagles forum. Take it there to see if they can help. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

If you haven't already done so, you should go and post here, which somebody else has already suggested:I'm afraid I'm confused by your description of events. It seems you tried to appeal to the train operating company, then you heard from the magistrates court that you would be fined £yyy unless you pleaded guilty (which I think you did) and then you were told by the magistrates that you'd been found guilty and were fined £yyy plus a lot more. Is that more or less it?There is a process whereby you can reset a conviction that you previously knew nothing about, back to the hearing stage by making a statutory declaration within 21 days of first hearing of the conviction. Whether this applies to you I do not know as you give no timelines and I don't know how long ago you first found out about the conviction. [Edit: A court might accept ti outside 21 days, but you'd need a bl00dy good reason - I'm not sure you've got one.]I would also try asking here: https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/112-public-transport-trains-tubes-and-buses/I know you say you've learnt your lesson, but never ever discard your train ticket before you leave the station![Edit 2: To clarify, if you make a statutory declaration within 21 days of first finding out about the conviction, the court has no choice but to accept it and reset the conviction so you subsequently get a fair hearing. If you make a stat dec after 21 days, they can choose to reject it unless you have a good reason for the delay. I don't know where you would stand in this as I don't understand your description of events and what has happened and when. Go to the first link in this post and ask there.]

OP. Sorry to me your post is really confusing. Do not understand why you are posting on a forum about parking tickets, not even the one on MSE about Public Transport, or why you assume Network Rail, the company responsible for the railway infrastructure is the one to deal with this. And not the train company whose train you travelled on?
Is it Network Rail you have been contacting? They will say it is not their remit.
If you had paid the £20 penalty at the time, then suspect you could then have appealed to the appropriate train company?
Suspect it is now to late to try and rectify, as you have already pleaded guilty.
Would think now a dedicated rail forum is the place to go for further advice. Try below as most posters are railway / train company employees.

You will get more experienced advice there. And do it ASAP.

I will most definitely post to the rail forum site you mentioned.
Network Rail and Network West midlands have been batting me left and right as Neither have pointed me in the right direction and Network Rail appears on rail Tickets. I have written to both and have been appealing with the designated fines system that I have been directed to. They have pointed out that they don't run the service but have been incredibly unhelpful in telling me who I SHOULD be speaking to. (Hence this forum).
If I'd paid the £20 fine it would be done and dusted and if I'd known that is would spark this much of an issue I would have done. I appealed as I was advised to.
My issue now is I am being taken to court by a company who has claimed to been writing to me when they haven't. At this point the first fine isn't the issue.0 -
