QCR Solicitors - Debt collectors

Options
Would be very grateful for some advice.
I left my car with a ‘friend’ who is a dealer as I was going abroad in a hurry.
The new owner got a parking ticket a couple of weeks later and I am now being chased for the debt of £182.

I can’t get through to the DVLA, the line is permanently engaged and I don’t have the chassis number to get any details online.

The debt company are insisting a letter from the DVLA is all they will accept as proof it wasn’t mine.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Post four of the Newbies Sticky covers this entirely, so we don’t need to do debt vultures all over again.
  • Post 4? They aren’t numbered from what I can see can you link for mere mortal newbie?

Is there an email address or a postal address you can use for your DVLA query?

I am now being chased for the debt of £182.

It is only a debt if a judge says it is.

The debt company are insisting a letter from the DVLA is all they will accept as proof it wasn’t mine.

Never mind what they say, it is what a judge says that matters.

It is not a fine, it is an invoice from an ex-clamper to compensate them for the alleged harm they suffered when you did what you did. We call it a scam. Pay them not a penny unless a judge so orders it.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP., it can cause the scammer extra costs, and in some cases, cancellation.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up later this year,

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these companies, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Was it a new owner as in you want to update the DVLA that you sold the car?

Or is it just that you need to tell the scam PPC who was driving?

No-one cares about debt letters.  Count 4 posts down in the NEWBIES thread and read it.  All.   It's QDR but a letter sent by useless scammers ZZPS.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
