i was always taught that it depended on the number of exits rather than their "clock" positionWelsh_and_proud said:
The sign I'm talking about is the one that's shows it's the third exit. When I was learning to drive anything past 12 o clock you would get in the right hand lane.AdrianC said:
Which sign is telling you to be in the RH lane? The only sign I see is the one saying it's the third exit.Welsh_and_proud said:...but the road sign is telling you to be in the right hand lane which lane should you be in.
The road markings say RH for Exit 4, A4042 S only. They say ONLY in big letters.
Exit 1 is minor.
Exit 2 is major, A4042 N.
Exit 3 is the services.
Exit 4 is major, A4042 S.
Exit 5 is a private entrance.
Exit 6 is back on yourself.
The signage looks absolutely fine, but could do with a repaint. The collision problem is going to be idiots who haven't read the signage mixing with idiots who think they have a right of way and don't look at what's around them.
As i have already said - I can see why there may be incidents there but as Adrian said - The signage looks absolutely fine, but could do with a repaint. They are indeed advisory. The only mandatory directional markings are those saying "Turn left" "Turn right" and "Ahead only".DoaM said:Although it can be argued that road markings are advisory ... it is easily possible for them to be covered by traffic and not at all visible.

The choice of lane is governed by the position of the exits, not their quantity.1 -
Pretty sure (happy to be corrected) that the Highway Code doesn't refer to exits by their clock position tho.
First, Right and Intermediate I believe they are named with no reference to their "clock position"

Road markings take priority over Highway Code convention for roundabouts.1 -
You're right. The clock positions are simply used to make things a bit clearer for those too thick to understand 'first', 'right' and 'intermediate'.JamoLew said:Pretty sure (happy to be corrected) that the Highway Code doesn't refer to exits by their clock position tho.

Signals and position. When taking the first exit to the left, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
- signal left and approach in the left-hand lane
- keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave.
When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
- signal right and approach in the right-hand lane
- keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout
- signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.
When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
- select the appropriate lane on approach to the roundabout
- you should not normally need to signal on approach
- stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout
- signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.
When there are more than three lanes at the entrance to a roundabout, use the most appropriate lane on approach and through it.
