Hi. I just opened my LISA. In August 2021 I'm goint to take a mortgage. I will be able to save 4k before end of the financial year (April 2021) in order to earn 1k from government. That's pretty clear and straight forward.
My question is. Assuming that I will have another 4k saved AFTER April 5th of 2021, can I "put" it straight away to my account and claim another 1k when taking mortgage around August 2021?
I'm asking because whole process would take barely over a year and my understanding is that thanks to financial year dadlines and possibility of paying in large amount of money in one chunk (unlike help to buy isa where there is a monthly limit) i could actually earn 2k in just over a year.
Am i right here? Am I missing anything?
Can i actually claim 2k in August 2021 as long as I put first 4k before 5/04/21 and second 4k after that?

Yes - the £4000 limit is per tax year not calendar year.0

That's really good. Thank you for clarifying.
I'm shocked how many people don't know about it. About LISA in general. If someone is definitely buying a house in over a year it's a fantastic opportunity.
Now I'm starting to regret that I didn't set my account in March.
I could put my already exciting saving of 4k, then after April 5th, another 4k, aaaand after April 2021 another 4k.
That gives you 3k of "free" money in about 15 months.
Of course it's not that easy to save this kind of money in such a short period of time but it's possible.0
