Can you invest in Aldi?

No, it's a private business. I mean if you have hundreds of billions you could approach the owners and ask them if they'd like to sell, on the offchance.0

It's a good reason to shop at Sainsbury's, Tesco or Morrisons, you can support British business and do your bit to grow/sustain your pension pot at the same time! Even if it's apparently more expensive.0

Same as LIDL, both are privately held0

If your pension pot contains any of those, even via a fund, you likely have some bad investments.vermania said:It's a good reason to shop at Sainsbury's, Tesco or Morrisons, you can support British business and do your bit to grow/sustain your pension pot at the same time! I knew someone would quickly take the bait. So by that it's preferable to line the pockets of private company owners instead.AnotherJoe said:

It's not a good reason. If increasing pension pot was the objective then one would shop cheaper and put the savings into a pension. As for supporting British business, all the supermarkets are providing jobs in the UK. I'm guessing the average Aldi worker relies less on working tax credits than a Tesco worker.vermania said:It's a good reason to shop at Sainsbury's, Tesco or Morrisons, you can support British business and do your bit to grow/sustain your pension pot at the same time! That's a pretty sweeping and emotive statement. What makes it worse, or better, whether a company is private or public? There are good and bad examples of both. Either you are trolling or a little Englander Brexiteer or both.

You could say the same about local small businesses. By shopping there, you are lining the pockets of their private company owner, rather than helping your own pension pot.vermania said:

Aldi (can't comment on Lidl as we don't shop there) stock a lot of british sourced produce. We find it far easier to find and buy produce from Britain in Aldi than Sainsbury's, Tesco, etc ,etc. So, I am comfortable in my actions in helping to support British business / farmers, etcvermania said:It's a good reason to shop at Sainsbury's, Tesco or Morrisons, you can support British business and do your bit to grow/sustain your pension pot at the same time! A poor idea IMNSHO. Because, for a start, you probably wont be growing your pension pot (which is one of the things you mentioned) instead you'd be depleting it.2
