Hairdressers putting prices up?

I messaged my hairdresser who told me my regular service would now be £55 instead of £40, as she’s put her prices up.  I find a nearly 40 % increase a lot, it smacks of profiteering off the back of covid & how desperate everyone is to book in.  The basic materials haven’t risen. I know there was a long period of no income, but if they’d been declaring their taxable income they’d have been entitled to government help.
Anyone else found similar big price increases?

Do you think the grocery stores will be charging the same prices Pre-COVID?
Start taking a serious look at your receipts from now on and you will see how the prices have crept up?
After every customer cleaning have to be done and this comes with having to purchase extra cleaning supplies.
How do you know that basic materials have not risen?
    Did you receive government help?

I'd expect the increase to be quite significant in all the businesses where their volume has been forced down. Your comments don't mention that but to me thats the biggy.

Yes, my hairdresser and my mother's has increased too by 40% I have no complaint. I have discovered I don't really need to visit every 6 weeks but every 10 weeks would do. I think most costs for everyone has increased.

The problem is that rather than having 1 customer after another or having a few in at the same time (e.g. one having their hair dyed or permed and another in the chair) they have to leave something like half an hour - an hour between customers and also spend time and money on ppe, cleaning everything
I would be suprised if they can see more than 1/3 of the clients they had in the same time period as before

Maybe the fact they've had no income for 4 months plays a part...

I went to mine yesterday and although they haven’t increased their prices I can see why some might be forced to do it. There are 4 chairs at my hairdressers and now they can only use two.
I was there for 3 hours and there was only another customer in that time. Most hairdressers will see to another client whilst a colour is developing but they can’t do that.
They’ve also spent a small fortune on hand sanitiser units, disposable capes/ aprons and visors.
My hairdresser told me their supplier had doubled the price of disposable gowns.

some salons will have no choice but to pass on  the increases.

We expected an increase (both me & OH go to the same place) but the prices remained the same as pre-covid.
    We left a larger tip.
  • I booked in yesterday for later this afternoon, when I asked they said usual price plus £3.60 for PPE cover.

My hairdresser has increased the price by £3 for me because instead of a dry cut they now have to wash my hair.   The last price rise was over 2 years ago and it was £2.

The basic materials have risen ( PPE per client ) but the biggest effect will be the squeeze on the number of appointments.
They will be spending £100's if not £1000's per month in PPE and be able to see ? 50% of people they did before. Its the new world will live in. Its even worse for dentists and cataract surgery!
