just gone to cyclingweekly.com and no popup videos here. I use uBlock Origin and NoScript though. Only allow that
site and not the others it tries to load in the background.
Install NoScript or maybe use uBlock to block avantlink.com , ti-media.net , timeincuk.net
The adverts are coming from one or more of those.
EDIT: Just gone through a few links and still no popups but its now trying to load
monetizer101.com , jwplatform.com
More links and another one... veloviewer.com , doubleclick.net
I think websites should tell you who they are sharing your data with and what other sites its loading in the
background.

Probably best to avoid themailalanrowell said:ublock origin doesn't deal with the likes of the dailymail
I do read it sometimes on my phone (chrome android with adguard) and its a complete pain with ads showing when almost every other site runs fine.0 -
I had to peruse a few news pages at Cycling Weekly until I found one with a video. I then tried the picker in uBlock Origin ... it blocked the video but not the popup itself. (Maybe I didn't go far enough - maybe I needed to then pick the popup).
Edit: just tried again and found I needed to pick 3 elements to block the popup:www.cyclingweekly.com##.jw-reset.jw-video www.cyclingweekly.com##.jw-reset.jw-media www.cyclingweekly.com##.jw-reset.jw-wrapper > .jw-reset.jw-aspect

OP I know you said that you did not want to change browsers - BUT - I downloaded Bravo browser just to read newspapers such as the Mail.
Works for me - I have to manually close one or two of those small videos now and then but mostly I can read the paper smoothly and change page to page without any buffering etc.0
