I booked a package hol with travel rep due to fly on 26/7/2020 however we have emailed the hotel and they are closed and will not be opening in the immediate future. I have emailed travel Republic numerous times about this and have asked for a refund on the money I have paid. They are not replying to any emails and the phone lines are closed, has anyone else been having problems with them, I think they have gone bust.

    Have you tried Twitter?

Or logged into your booking and tried that way?

  • I have a holiday to Majorca booked 24/7. Got standard message from TR approx 2 weeks ago saying holiday was on and did we want to go or amend dates. Replied asking to amend. No response. Have since worked out that the Ryanair flights are cancelled. TR republic account says final payment overdue- pay now. They are replying to some posts on their Facebook Page- basically saying someone will be in touch. Lots of people with complaints on there. It seems as though some people have been contacted but they seem to be in the minority. The lack of communication is appalling

We had our holiday at end of May cancelled and are still waiting a refund.  TR sent an email suggesting refund was ready 7th July but credit card was now invalid (it hasn’t changed) and they would be in contact to arrange alternative method.

Have heard nothing back and like OP they will not respond to website enquires, twitter, facebook and have cut off phone lines.  I suspect they are trying to keep as much cash flow as possible.

Twitter is full of loads of people in same position or worse.  Turning up to hotels that haven’t been paid..
  • We were due to go on holiday 13th July, i have requested a full refund but still heard nothing back.  I have tried calling numerous times but just get the same answerphone message to say the offices are now closed and to check the website for opening times.  I'm getting really worried now that we are not going to get our money back.
  • My son and his friends had booked to go to Greece at the end of June.  We’ve heard nothing from them. I have sent a couple of messages which their website says they will respond within 48 hours. That was weeks ago. I am also very worried. Should we contact ABTA/ATOL?
  • We are due to go on holiday on 23/08/20 booked flights, hotel and transfers with Travel Republic. I have spoken to the hotel who have advised that they are closed until next summer. I have emailed, messaged them on Facebook and Twitter , phone lines are closed and had no response. They are due to take the final balance on 09/08/20 should I cancel my card to stop them taking the money?
People are being told on the day they are due to fly or worse turning up and finding their hotel closed.

Let TR make the decision about cancelling. Consider raising a formal complaint with ABTA via the ABTA website which is what we have done. It is a bit of hassle having to attach all your messages / emails / booking confirmation etc. but once its done, its done. They say they will prioritise those who have issues with imminent travel bookings. Our situation is similar although is affected due to one of the flights being cancelled:
We are due to travel on 17/08/20 to Zante, Greece. Balance was paid in full last year and TR have tried to get us to sign a Covid-19 waiver to continue with our holiday or choose to amend booking for future date. Informed them we would not agree to waiver and did not want to amend holiday either. A week later, around 10th July when I checked my booking to see if there was any response from TR, a mysterious £0.50 charge had appeared on our booking with instruction to pay this final balance or risk holiday being cancelled. Of course I paid this to prevent any cancellation (even though this was a brand new charge -apparently a booking fee that hadn't been on our original invoice hence we should not have been asked to pay this). I then got a new invoice emailed over with a 'Covid-19 waiver' attached and info within email that we had agreed to this waiver even though we hadn't! We had booked a single package holiday with TR incorporating flight out with Jet2, accommodation and return flight with TUI so fully covered for any significant changes to our holiday etc. I have since found out that TUI is no longer operating flights on a Monday to Zante therefore I contacted TUI directly and they confirmed our flight was cancelled. I queried this with TR immediately but two weeks later have still not had any response from TR to tell us our flight (and holiday) is cancelled. TUI advised that we would have to go through TR to obtain a full refund for our overall holiday but they would release the funds for the flight to them immediately once TR had requested this from them. TUI have already refunded us what we paid for reserved seating which was purchased later directly through the TUI website. So, I know we are not going on holiday and have done for over 2 weeks now but TR still haven't told us our package holiday is cancelled! Disgraceful service from TR. My advice to others who had a single contract package booked is to check if your flights and accommodation are still operating. You can do this by checking your airline flight schedule for this summer to find out what flights are operating on different days and then go to your accommodations website and email them for updates. In then meantime, register complaints via ABTA so they are also aware and may be able to assist with those with imminent travel plans.

Cancelling the card wont exactly help.
Where did the idea come from.
