Weird corner things - Why are they here and can I remove them?

Hi All,
Viewed a flat that had these things in two of the rooms (the smaller bedroom and the living room). Does anyone know what they are and if they can be removed?

The estate agent didn't know and I wondered if anyone here might have insight. The smaller bedroom needs all the space it can get so taking this out would be helpful.

I'll try and ask the vendor through the EA but that might take a while...0 -
More than likely thats just a feature , is there anything the other side of the wall that could give you a clue?
If you pop the top off your question will be immediately answered......

Update: Vendor has no idea what is behind them. Brilliant.0

To me they look like design features for supporting a pot plant or other decorative item as in the second picture.
I doubt if there is pipework or cabling inside as, were that the case, I would expect it to run floor to ceiling.
Is it a house or a flat as you use both terms in your posts?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -

Tell the vendor that is a condition of you making an offer.
They will probably refuse but worth asking if it is a deal breaker.

I think it's a shelf . Something that you could put a plant or a stereo speaker or something .
Could be wrong though ..0 -
