Hi,
I am buying a new house and I would lilke to get broadband internet but I do not want cable TV or a homephone - I am going to get a freeview box and I use my mobile for all my calls.
Can anyone advise whether I can get broadband without a home phone or cable TV? I have looked at some of the broadband only deals and they mention that they need a phone line.
Please help!
Thanks

If you find the mobile option is not for you, then get a BT line, at least then you will have a wide choice of BB suppiers & not just VirginEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

I Beleive Virgin Media do internet without TV or phone. My son has this in his house. No Landline or TV packages, just the broadband.0

Thanks for the replies,
I had a quick look at the BT website and their line rental is £10 a month! I may as well get a phone, tv, cable package if I have to pay that.
I will look into Virgin, why does it have to be soooooo complicated! I just want the internet! Nothing else!

It's quite simple, to get ADSL/cable bb you must be connected to the phone or cable network and that costs money. For Virgin BB you don't pay line rental but you will for ADSL because Openreach are leasing their wires to your provider.0

If you live in a cable area you can get broadband only from £18 a month see:

Otherwise your need a phone line, or a mobile bb service.0 -
Have just found out that there is a virgin line in the house and I can just choose to have broadband for £10 a month for 6 months then £18 for the last 6 months so it averages out at about £14 a month just for broadband and I do not need to take homephone or tv, they just use the lines that are already there to fit the broadband.
I am really pleased, as all the other companies I spoke to said I needed a BT line and pay for line rental so I think I have saved myself abit of money there! Yeah!0 -

Once you're connected you can get a voip adaptor to plug into your modem, this will give you calls over the net without paying telephone line rental.0 -

That's a pretty good deal, but if you need a landline anyway, it might be worth going for one of Virgin's bundles. They are currently offering a £15.50 a month deal for line rental and 2Mb broadband for new customers on a 12 month contract. That works out at £186.00 a year which is much cheaper than paying BT for line rental (approx £11) and adding on anyone's broadband.
I have been with Virgin/Telewest for over 5 years now and I've found them pretty good. Cable broadband also seems to run faster than non-cable broadband as it doesn't depend on how fr you are from the exchange. hello0 -
