But how can you choose what company delivers your stuff if your ordering from Anazon or ebay?

With eBay you can message the seller and ask. If it is not a courier you are happy with and they won't use a different one, then you can buy from somebody else.

Amazon 3rd party sellers you can do the same. Prime stuff come by Amazon's own (around here anyway) who seem fine.

I use Royal Mail to send out.  For deliveries TO me, I have no control. DPD have been excellent, so have Hermes and amazon prime. They've also all been rubbish. BUT I've ever had any problem - if a parcel doesn't arrive when it's supposed to, I  always contact the sender and they always sort out the problem. No good going to the couriers, go direct to the seller of whatever it is you are waiting for. I've never had to pay any extra and replacements have always been sent without fuss.

No courier is 100 per cent efficient all the time. And really, maybe our expectations are too high. Don't forget that their pay is absolutely rubbish.  Their service is good enough.

    Stop moaning!!  *ahem*

Oh but does it really matter, in the scheme of things? Parcels arrive in the end. Or you get your money back. Or is that just me for the last 12 years?

But not if it's a unique purchase that no other seller has listed.
But I do agree that some eBay sellers are agreeable to using a different courier if you ask them.

I do prefer Royal Mail deliveries but that's partly because our delivery tends to come in the morning when I'm more likely to be in (pre-covid) and partly because it's easier for me to pop along to the sorting office if I have missed delivery (also pre-covid).

I've had no problems at all with any delivery company. Maybe I've just been lucky.

True but then you have to decide if the whole "package" (item + method of delivery) is one you are happy with.

In a way it is no different to buying a "unique" item from a shop or classified ad that doesn't do delivery. You have to decide if a combination of the item and the ease / difficulty of getting there to collect is acceptable to you or not.

Sadly I am old enough to remember the days before online shopping. Photography was a particular interest of mine back then. The choices were paying through the nose in the local camera shop or buying from one of the bigger dealers who advertised in Amateur Photographer or similar. They were significantly cheaper but unless you were local you had to post of a cheque or postal order (remember them) and wait generally at least a couple of weeks for the item to arrive on an unspecified day (let alone time) by good old fashioned parcel post. Happy days!
