Messed around by dealership?
Options
I needed a bigger car so I went to a Toyota dealership and got finance for new pre-reg car on Friday 3rd July. I was told car would be there on the Monday (6th) or Tuesday (7th). I called up on Tuesday and was told handover for car would be on the Friday (10th).
Just as I'm about to leave, I get a call from salesman telling me the car wasn't at dealership but still in their depot. He tells me he will get it sorted and email me. Come the Monday (12th) I hadn't heard anything, so I call again and was told the admin team isn't in during weekends, so he couldn't do anything but would email me once he had more info. I call again on Friday (17th) to be told he is off on a long weekend and won't be back til Monday.
My concern is I'll have to end up paying for both my current car, which I am trading in and have vaulation all done for, AND the new car at same time due to old finance not being sorted in time. Old car is due on 1st August and new one is due on 3rd. Seeing as the deal is all done and payments set up, valuation on trade in done, and deposit paid to cover the negative equity, I am going to end up £200 out of pocket due to old car payment, and what seems like dealership dragging their heels. It shouldn't take almost 2 weeks to deliver a car to a dealership from their depot, should it?

I assume you have seen the new car?
The finance on the new car won't start until you actually get the car. You can always put the date back, say collect on 1st August.0 -
Where is the depot and where is the dealership?
When we bought a new car we had to wait until the transporter was bringing up several cars.0 -
The OP is buying a second hand car. Not new car.0

Have you not seen the car and taken it for a test drive?"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

Sorry for late replies.
It is a brand new pre-reg car. Registered on Monday 29th June, and I went to enquire about it at dealership on Tuesday 30th. I did all paperwork for finance on the Tuesday. The finance was all accepted on the Friday 3rd July.
I was told that the car was to be valeted etc on the Tuesday (6th) when I called up to see what was going on with it and that handover was to be the Friday 10th at 9:45am. I got a call on the Friday at 9am to say that the car wasn't actually at the dealership, but still at their depot and that the salesman was going to get everything sorted. I calle don the Monday (13th, not 12th sorry) and was then told the admin team wasn't in at weekends and nothing had been done. I left it til Friday (17th) and called again at 10 am to see what was going on to be told by the woman on phone that he wasn't answering his phone and she'd get him to call me. I call back at 4pm and the lady then told me he was actually off for the weekend. I said I'd call back on Monday (20th, today).
I have taken a car for a test drive, same make and model, Toyota Yaris Hybrid Y20. I was given paperwork (vehicle order) on the Tuesday (30th), which had the reg and VIN number.
The depot I can't find information on, but google maps shows it's main office to only be 5 mins from the showroom. The maps show a giant car area within its premises.0 -
I hope you screwed them into the ground on the price as the current Yaris is just about to be replaced by a completely new redesigned model !

It's unfortunate but you should be able to rearrange the payment date of your new car.
You haven't really lost out totally as you're still using your current car which obviously needs paying for.
There are different types of pre reg cars, some are demos that the dealer may run for 6 months or so.
Some are dealer stock, if they buy and register a certain number of cars the dealer will pay less overall for future cars. With big dealerships, these could be sat in a compound anywhere in the country. Some even might be sat in a compound of a different dealership franchise that they'll buy in for you.
Some importers (like Toyota UK) will order cars to fill the same sorts of quotas and often store them at the docks, they don't often register them themselves unless fleet or press cars, but they have been known to when they have a lot of out going models stored and a new model is about to be released on sale. They'll register them all on the current number plate so there's less overlap with the new model launch/number plate.
This maybe relevant as there's a new Yaris about to hit the showrooms in late August/early September.
When it comes to moving them about between docks and dealer or dealer and dealer, it's just down to economics.0 -
As its a Yaris they will be last run of the old model. Our local Toyota dealership were offering huge discounts off the non hybrids.0

I think Toyota dealers will be having serious issues getting rid of the old model Yaris as they have missed 4 months of normal sales.
It wouldn't surprise me if many cars are still sitting in the compound at Bristol and your dealer is telling you porkies.0 -
So I just called them. Car is ment to be getting delivered on Thurdays 23rd. Salesman said he'll try get it ready for Saturday.
I'm aware there is a new model coming out soon, I had looked at it.0
