Old Style Daily Sunday 19 July 2020

Gers

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning all.I'm hoping that me being awake is only an interlude in my sleeping.Yesterday DM's crossword friend came to visit, his first official one since the easing of his shielding. His unofficial visits were when I was hospitalised recently. He and DM sat for ages drinking tea, chatting away and eventually finishing the Times cryptic crossword. DM really enjoyed the visit though will, no doubt, be tired all day as she was determined to both dressed and sitting at the table for the tea and cakes, that's the first for ages.An upstairs neighbour here brought down a freshly made and still hot panetonne bread pudding which was just delicous, such kindness is so lovely. Meanwhile a neighbour of mine sent me through a photo of their back garden oil drum campfire round which they were enjoying drams! Such a contrast. The morning has come in all bright and almost sunny. If it continues then I'll go for a walk.MEANMARIE - I hope that you managed some sleep last night.Happy Sunday to all.14

Morning all
Gers your mum sounds to be recovering really well and Im sure the bread pudding will go down well
Gorgeous start to the day here too so good to see the big yellow ball again. Sunday spa anyone
The slow cooker brisket was just gorgeous yesterday melt in the mouth. (Nan it was easy I just follow recipes religiously ....James has taught me well you're right) This is the one I used just mostly did it in the slow cooker not oven
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/pulled-firecracker-brisket
More of the same today then as predicted lots for the freezer. Kitchen does look like a bombs hit it (James didn't teach me that very well) so will need to sort that although I have some very droopy rhubarb in the fridge so may do a crumble which will add to the mess before it gets done sometime
Hope you have a sunny Sunday

Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. Bright sunshine here too which lifts the spirits after all the drab days last week. It's forecast to be around for a few days too so DF and I are arranging another garden rendezvous, complete with bottle of wine.
I plan on a bit of a garden tidy today but as usual I plan to do all sorts when I am laid in my bed! When I get up it doesn't always happen! The garage door looks filthy so I plan on attacking that with a mop and bucket of soapy water first job. Watch this space on that!
NELS I made your recommended Orzo Risotto a la Nigella and it was delicious. So quick and easy to make too. I shall definitely be making that again.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning, andthanks for starting Gers.
Your Mum is doing really well, going from strength to strength.
Its sunny here as well, seems to be a bit windy, but at least it's bright, We'll go over to the van today with our clothes. it can be difficult choosing clothes to take, We're only going to N Yorks, so the weather will probably be the same as here.
We took some winter coats to the charity shop yesterday, so that's something else decluttered, we have too much stuff really..
We have a clothes rail in the loft on which we store out of season coats, and DH took some winter stuff up the other day and said the rail was overloaded, so that gave us the push to get rid of things. The coats are all in garment bags, and the rail has a cover so nothing gets dusty,
More charity shops are reopening here, I know they rely on volunteers some of whom may be shielding. We have have quite a few in our little town, as everywhere does now, and 2 have reopened.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday, and manages to get some sunshine, take care folks14 -
Morning All
Bright and sunny here but it's quite chilly. Yesterday was lovely apart from the few heavy showers we had, it was a mad dash to get the washing in and I left my car windows open so will have to give that an airing today. I spilled some coffee on a cushion yesterday (thankfully it missed the sofa) so that's in the wash, not sure how it will dry as it's full of feathers.
I had my much needed haircut yesterday, didn't seem to have that much taken off but it looks so much better. DD had about 6 inches lopped off hers and said she feels like a new woman! I called at the allotment and picked 2 more courgettes (my friend had one) and a bucket of peas so will shell them later.
Shopping this morning for supplies, I'm going to collect the DGC tomorrow so don't want to go to any shops with them then I need to get the house child ready!
Pleased to hear your DM had a great day Gers, hope there are more of the same.
I'll be at the spa later Nelski, make sure the water's warm!
I too went to the charity shop yesterday Scarlett, 3 big bags out of the way. Must remember next time to put everything in black bags as they kept the bags I took everything in.
Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX13 -

Hugs to those that want/need them, those whose who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy start to the day here, very wet underfoot as we have had heavy rain during the night and it's forecast for a wet day.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was sweet bbq beef kebabs, pork kebabs, HM egg and veg fried rice. Lunch today will be roast pork, roasties, mash, swede, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy.
Yesterday we just chilled. Back to work tomorrow after annual leave.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Yesterday was a glorious day really scorching but have woken today to grey sky and showers all day, we went out on the bikes yesterday and did 11 miles then got back and took the dogs to the woods for 3 miles so lots of exercise I was shattered last night but got into bed and was wide awake againso took a sleeping pill and went off after that, once I have finished the pills I shall book to see the Dr again to see if he can help with an alternative to pills.
The steak was delish last night we sat in the garden for a long while and shared a bottle of fizz it was most pleasant. Not sure what we will do today as its raining but the dogs wont let us forget that they need a walk.
Might do a chilli for dinner as its a bit cooler we have it with rice and wraps and sour cream and make up chilli wraps which are lovely.
I have stripped the beds this morning and got them on a hot wash they may have to go in the TD today but we will see.
Gers I am so pleased that mum got up and dressed it will lift her spirits a bit xx
Marie I hope you managed to get some sleep last night xx
Nels book me a spot next to the pool xx
Mona We cycled up a huge hill yesterday and could see the Island very clearly I waved at you, did you see me ? xx
Have good days all xx13 -
Morning campers, the sun has finally got his hat on again.I didn't get chance to mow the lawn yesterday as it started drizzling as soon as I stepped foot out of the back door, it had turned to rain by tea time and lasted throughout the night. This morning the ground is sodden so no mowing today eitherYesterday I re- fitted the drawer after it was fixed then decided to sort through the other drawers. Cue a big cull of instruction books on items we no longer have and out of date paperwork, some of which is awaiting shredding. I have no plans for today but if I'm in the mood I shall get crafty or at least tidy up the day bed which looks like a a jumble sale in a haberdashers shop ! I have materials, ribbons and trimmings everywhere but now I need to get out my card making stuff out too. I still have a card to make and I like to spread all the bits and bobs out somewhere to see what works with what. I think I need a bigger drop leaf table and a bigger roomTea tonight will be some chicken portions cooked in a sauce or spices perhaps and roasties or jackets or maybe wedgies, we will see how we feel later. I must admit I do enjoy these Sunday's when I can please just us and cook what we fancy and when I feel like cooking. Seems a bit strange when it's now just another day in the week, but I feel quite relaxed about it.Nelski thanks for the recipe, it has been duly noted and now in my recipe library. Book me a lounger in the spa please !MeanMarie hope you feel better today.NMLC enjoy your last day off before work tomorrow.Hugs winging their way to the poorly ones and anyone struggling with anything.Take care all, stay safe and well if you are venturing out.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13

Afternoon all,
Slept much better last night thanks everyone, pain still there.
Woke up to a lovely sunny morning.......was even showered and dressed before 9 which is a bit of a record for me nowadays!
Not really doing anything today, we are having a takeaway this evening for dinner, so no prep needed, there is a salad in the fridge and strawberries for pudding.
Think that I will give the orzotto a go during the week, OH is not keen on risotto so I will rename it!
Gers.....glad to hear that DM is doing so well......she is one tough lady!
Stay safe
Marie
