    I'd reccomend one of these

theres a bit of knack to get the basic earth clamps on properly, but with the one above i'd say it's impossible to mess it up

Had a gas engineer around that found a defect. There is a earth bonding cable in the gas meter box but it's not clamped to the pipe & was told it needs to be clamped on. Is this something I can do myself or would I need to call out an electrician it seems such a small job?

Clamp required to fit on outdoing pipe RH side. Clamp on tighten up. slacken off screw. Trim approx. 20 mm insulation from earth cable. wrap round under screw and tighten up. 5 Min job.

LINKY for purchase. EC15 would probably be best.

    LINKY for install, Simples

Not sure if its needed these days as all supply pipes usually plastic?

No need to turn off electric or test anything. Follow instructions and Google is your friend?

It is required, within 600mm of the meter outlet and before the first tee. It's not earthing the supply pipe, it's earthing the copper gas pipes in the property.

all that is wrong by the way...
it's 600mm of the meter or entry to the property "where it is reasonably practicable"
and it's not earthing anything, it's bonding, theres a difference. a metal pipe that is buried in the ground already has an earth.
it's job is to ensure the incoming supply earth remains at the same potential (0v) as the extraneous metalwork (incoming metal pipes that go into the ground)
think of it as joining the earths together
