Purchased stolen car!

I guess if you pressed the point (or hired a solicitor, which seems unnecessary) you could see them at the station but given that they’ll be seizing the car it seems easier for you to do it at home. It’ll also be more comfortable to do the interview in your house than in their station surrounded by criminals etc.0

On the instant car check website under check for stolen vehicles, it ends "After the excitement of buying a car, the last thing you want is for it to be taken away again with no compensation"
The inference being that having done the check would give compensation if this happens. May be worth the. OP pursuing.0 -
That's no way to talk about our police.Dr_Crypto said:I guess if you pressed the point (or hired a solicitor, which seems unnecessary) you could see them at the station but given that they’ll be seizing the car it seems easier for you to do it at home. Because of the double negative, doesn't the last comment mean that you think that the vast majority of police are criminals?Jack_Cork said:0 -

Terms and conditions will rarely if ever have anything about what the company will do if they are negligent. That does not mean that you cannot sue them if they are negligent.Grumpy_chap said:Normally the car check services (like 'instantcarcheck.co.uk' ) have some warranty to cover your losses if you buy a car they say is OK but it turns out to be nicked or similar. Otherwise, what would be the value of such a service? Anyone could set up a website saying every car is sooper dooper.
Why are you looking to sell a car bought in March so quickly?
Did you pay market rate for the car, or was it "too good to be true"?0 -
HPI check have the following on their website:
£30,000DATA GUARANTEE*
We are so confident in the accuracy of our car check data, we back it with a guarantee
Without something similar, any car data check seems pointless. Obviously, if you rely on a free check, that won't have any liability, but the OP said a paid check was done.
Isn't instant car check part of HPI?

GUARANTEE*the * is the important bit, it means there is no circumstance that our Legal team could imagine that will result in us paying out
The T&Cs will say that payment has to be made by traceable means, that the seller has to be successfully prosecuted, that any loss caused by late updating of the database is not covered etc.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Interesting but irrelevant, since he used some cheapo website, not HPI. Still, it's not all bad news - he probably saved a fiver.Grumpy_chap said:HPI check have the following on their website:£30,000DATA GUARANTEE*
