Hi all,

Wondering if anybody has some advice.

Basically I bought a car back in March and did a check on 'instantcarcheck.co.uk' and everything came back clear.

Fast forward to yesterday and I decided to put it on Autotrader to sell and I was unable to post the car for sale as it stated to phone the security team. It was 8 pm so I thought that was strange so I did another check and it stated the car was stolen.

I went to 'isitnicked.com' and it stated it was stolen on 11/06/2000(yes 2000 NOT 2020)

So I called the police this morning and they stated it was stolen back in March and that the database was a typo and incorrect.

They stated they want to make an appointment to visit me. I don't really want them coming round(nosey neighbours, embarrased etc) so I offered to come to the police station at an allotted time but they refused.

They stated they must make an appointment to come and interview me. I've already explained to them what happened etc.

I have nothing to hide and would prefer to go to the station.

Just so you know the car was bought with both keys, all service history etc so nothing to think it was dodgy.

Thanks

Yes, do I have to let them interview me at home. I've offered to go to the police station.

In your post on Pepipoo you said the police "stated they will come and take the car and not to drive it etc.", so they're coming to your house whether you like it or not.

The car is leaving with the police. Whether that happens at your home or at the police station with you having to make your own way home is up to you but the car is going.
Given you can no longer drive it they're going to have to come to you to pick it up anyway so you going to the police station just adds unnecessary time wasting for everyone.

Fair enough, I'll wait for them to turn up.

Personally, I'd be making it as easy for them as possible... And being interviewed at home has to be easier for you, too, surely...?

Did you get a refund from instacheck?

I cant see anything in there terms and conditions stating anything about them getting information wrong.

According to the information it was only logged as  stolen a month ago but the police are stating it it was stolen before I bought it.

I'll wait for them to come round and take the car away. Not much else I can do.

Normally the car check services (like  'instantcarcheck.co.uk' ) have some warranty to cover your losses if you buy a car they say is OK but it turns out to be nicked or similar.  Otherwise, what would be the value of such a service?  Anyone could set up a website saying every car is sooper dooper.

Why are you looking to sell a car bought in March so quickly?
Did you pay market rate for the car, or was it "too good to be true"?
