It's simple. You do your research around the link, not via the link. It takes a matter of moments and avoids you getting ripped off.  You don't even need a bottle.

As evidenced by the many people taken in by scams through clicking links, through responding to ddgy e-mails, from answering phone with their personal data, I don't think it's unnecessary advice at all.
Besides, what competent person would actually click a link on facebook? It's pretty much synonymous with scam.

That's very insightful.  Well done.  This is a virtual 'love in'.  People make mistakes.  As for your assertion that Facebook is pretty much synonymous with scam - I am sure plenty of lawyers make wish to work with you on how the world is being ripped off, blatantly, everyday on one of the world's largest platforms...  Note, I did not say scams do not take part on it but I guess most people would not agree with your assertion.
Also, the fact that it is a 'scam' is seeming being supported by the fact that Ingenious Legal Ltd are in fact subject to the SRA (solicitor's code of conduct), - so by your leap of logic, they must be (somehow) complicit?
    Odd.
Clicking a link that ends up in decent people paying money that they shouldn't because a legal firm chooses to play fast and lose with the rules is not a 'scam' per se, but it is a travesty and your moral high ground statements don't help

Err, how are you supposed to know prior to clicking a link?
Love the foresight you have though.  If you can bottle it, it would sell brilliantly.

The claims management industry as a whole has a dire reputation for using unethical practices, its more of a common sence type thing, than a holding the moral high ground one.
You clicked a link to a CMC on facebook, and thought it was legitimate, because of course if its on facebook it must be, right ?
I will re-phrase my original post for you, "at your own risk" would appear to be more appropriate.
I`m sorry you were scammed, i really am, but attempting to belittle perfectly legitimate advice from folk who have no more agenda than to offer help to you, makes little sence.

I'm very grateful for the advice - genuinely - for taking the time and sharing the insight.  Sometimes, though the way it reads does make it feel as though 'anyone sensible wouldn't have done it'.  The fact is I did, many others did and sadly many others will.
It doesn't make it right, and is compounded by the fact that as a 'legal' firm Ingenious should be held to higher standards.

Again, many thanks for your time :)

It is still going as there are plenty of people still clicking links and getting ripped off.

  • Hi
Some time ago I authorised MYPPIREFUND to do a check for PPI I have had no further response from them until I received a letter from Lloyd's bank saying that I will be getting a refund which came the next day. Then PPI Refund sent me a letter asking for payment of the fees for getting me the refund. Bottom line is that I only signed for them to find out what PPI I had and had not signed anything else to authorised them to claim it. Can they do that without me signing anything. And what should I do next.
    Cheers

    Sorry:
Perhaps read the last 3 pages and then decide how you are going to pay the fee for the PPI refund that they got you?
