What a remarkable story, culminating in the wonderful pictures today of HM knighting Sir Tom. Also his interviews afterwards. I liked it when the clever journalists asked what had been said between him and the Queen, expecting a big scoop, but Sir Tom said "that is private"------no flies on Tom ! Another of those stories that show humanity at its best. Everybody on MSE should comment but does it not say a lot that not many posters actually join in this Acts of Kindness Forum. The very best of wishes to everyone----and keep safe.

Same generation as my parents were.Dad fought with the RAF, he would have been 103 had he lived, mum ran the house, also worked as well, they just got on with it, they didn`t go knocking down statutes and breaking windows in London, my dads brother was killed during the retreat to Dunkirk, another brother also flew with the RAF.I guess i was brought up to respect what you have, and treat others in the same way, sadly most millenials today are too lost in their own rights, they can`t see the wrong they are doing, my dad would not recognise the country he fought for today.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. There must be more than one MSE member who wants to echo all you say, sourcrates. My family story is similar so your own recollections moved me. Thank You.
And, of course, both the figures in the knighting ceremony believe in all the values you allude to.2 -
At her age it's unlikely she gives honours to people older than her.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I know I'm late to this 'Act of Kindness' and I'm not quite of the generation but I was very proud to have heard about Captain Sir Tom. He was a giver through his life, during the war and, more recently the huge amount of money he raised for the NHS. He will be remembered with love and respect.
R.I.P Sir2 -
I was very sad to read that he had died. He inspired a lot of people and generated a feel good factor in what was probably the worst year we have had since WW2
RIP Sir Tom1 -
A national treasure!1

I was sad that he died but even more so that in the end after everything he did and stood for Covid got him. He lived a full life and had a final year that most people cant dream of but if anyone deserved to just pass away peacefully in his sleep it was Sir Tom. Very sad.1

I'm not originally from the UK so I can say that your media here is always full of propaganda. They have a set narrative. Same with Sir Tom. In most other countries yes he would be celebrated, but people would be asking how he can jet off to Barbados while they don't get to see loved ones or hardly leave the house. But in UK if you even ask that you are cancelled. I have been in UK for a long time but I am still confused at how free thought, let alone free speech is not allowed. RIP though Ctp Sir Tom, we all make mistakes.3

There’s been a lot of free speech about the holiday. That’s something else we’re good at - lifting people up to then turn on them. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2
