Help with applying for refund of phone as out of contract

Options
Hi - before anyone calls me it I'll say it - I'm daft! I didn't realise 12 months ago I effectively paid off my mobile phone. So this whole year I've been overcharged for a phone I've already purchased and I think this is daylight robbery. I read somewhere on MSE that refunds may be given. Anyone had any success with this?

How can you be overcharged for something you had already paid off ?
How did you not notice earlier ?
So you had a phone on contract, what was the contract length ?

  • 2 years. I didn't realise that of the £40 I was paying monthly, this was the same amount I was paying from the start to cover the cost of the phone. After 2 years it was paid off yet I'm still paying the same for 12 months. Wrong.

So contract was for 2 years, it has ended (or whatever the term is) and your still paying the same amount.
Again how could you not notice, how often do you check your bank account ?
    Speak to the network ?

  • I knew I was spending £40 just thought it was the cost of the PHONE LINE. But if this price was the same price I've been paying since Day 1 (which covers the COST of the PHONE) then by my reckoning they've been crafty and overcharged me and I think thats wrong.

Is the cost of the 'phone payment shown as separate in your contract?
It never used to be,unless it is shown as a separate payment, service + phone payment then you have just been paying what you contracted for

Name the company and maybe someone has similar experience & can suggest solution, you may not have any "rights" just good will gesture

Unless the air time and the handset are itemized on your bill, as in O2 refresh, the £40 is for the air time and it's wholly up to you to know when your minimum term is up and do something about it.
