Spoke to the resolution manager today and she said there is nothing that can be done, either i pay £472 to get manual peter installed, or i provide meter readings. Maybe one day, the smart meter might start working again, she doesn't know but nothing they could do.
So complaint been closed, aren't paying because it's daylight robbery, so ill just have to submit meter readings and hope for the one day it to magically work again even though they have zero comms with it!
THANK You EON0 -
Not sure why you'd want to change back to a manual meter anyway - a smart meter that's dumb becomes a manual meter so you aren't any better or worse off than you were (apart from having higher blood pressure
) so am I missing something here.
In fact my dumb smart meter still talks to the IHD so I can reading it without going outside, so I am still getting some benefit from it as it makes it easy to read for my monthly updatesNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
OP, I had a similar sort of issue with E.ON when I had smets2 meters installed last December. On the day they were installed, they worked for about 3 hours in full smart mode and then stopped communicating to the IHD or sending any readings to E.ON. E.ON assured me they would work in due course but 2-3 weeks passed with no luck. In early January my quarterly E.ON bills were due and 1-2 days before, I submitted both gas & electric readings manually to E.ON. 24hrs later, my smart meters sprang to life (and have worked fine ever since) so maybe the manual readings 'calibrated' the meters...or it might just be down to pure coincidence. I suggest you continue to send manual meter readings to E.ON, there's always the possibility that the meters could start working at any given moment - assuming they're not faulty.

I think the main point of this thread is EON forced smart meters onto people (in T&C of tariffs) knowing full well there was a problem with the smart metering system not sending readings or being stuck at their end so producing bills stating they were actual reads when in fact they where way off (my EON issue, thankfully doubled checked gas reading and realised there was an issue) and they did this to meet government targets! For years I asked for smart meters as it would have been handy for the gas as it’s in a terrible place to access with a disability and EON said no they couldn’t install in a flat. Then last year emails, letters etc. saying they could now install one.
My smart meter is dumb and whilst it’s no different to my old meter the one major inconvenience is as my EON account thinks I have a smart meter I can no longer submit readings online and now I have to call a very busy call centre, left on hold and have to listen to terrible loud music. Not great when you have anxiety and autism, so yeah my smart meter does cause me more problems especially now when trying to submit readings! If EON could fix this to allow readings to be put in online again it would be helpful.
Oh and this weekend an email from EON telling me my gas meter might be faulty and they need to change it! Now I have to endure another call centre telephone call!0
