It's the same for everyone in the same position, they won't be ripping out all their smart meters any time soon, nor will TfL be chartering a helicopter to whisk you from Canary Wharf to Paddington in 17 minutes the way that Crossrail should now be doing. Life's too short to fret about things that have been delayed a bit. You're actually better off: if / when the grid goes wonky in the winter, your individual supply can't be rationed or remotely disconnected, but your smart neighbours' can be.2

LeukyBear said:it's a dumb meter that they have no communication with and refuse to replace..is it unreasonable to ask for my old meter back?In short, yes, it is unreasonable. You had a dumb meter before, you have a dumb meter again, so not really any worse off than you were at the start.Refusing to send in meter readings because you don't have the right type of dumb meter is only going to cause problems for you in the end with all those estimated bills...As long as the current meter still functions to record usage, you are not going to get anyone out to replace it with a different dumb meter.

Lol, seriously, i'll just send meter readings when i'm next home. i won't even bother them again cause it's really been an entire nightmare trying to get them to resolve this because they genuinely don't care.1 -
Unfortunately this is the sort of thing that happens when you/your government allow a vital industry to be sold to foreigners. Should never have been de-nationalised. At least before it was the government ripping you off!

How about switching to a different supplier? When a company p155es me off I just never do business with them again (ironically npower are the only energy supplier on my "avoid" list). I'm with Symbio who are utterly incompetent but cheap. There are other suppliers who are less useless but more expensive.
Do take meter readings, otherwise you'll just end up in an estimated bill mess which will be more aggro. The UK's smart meter project is a shambles but we've got bigger problems in life to deal with so don't let it wind your blood pressure up.4 -
It's not particularly EON, I would say. I'm having similar problems with my supplier, although in my case the meter and display _was_ working for a while. The whole system is a right pigs breakfast with many interfaces and communications between different systems that are a right pain, particularly to rectify when they go wrong. So I have sympathy for both you and the poor saps who have to sort it all out.

As I've posted before on the forums , the Utility Companies have been "incentivised" (= threatened) to install smart meters by the Govt./OFGEM - but nobody said they have to get them working !!3
