They were entitled to SSP, so they had been covered and not excluded. Granted not as generously as other groups.
It just felt unfair when other people at my employer were given 80% of their wages through furlough but I lost a large proportion of my income as I had to claim benefits. It felt like I'd been penalised for having a long term health condition.

Here I go again on my own....

Not saying it was fair, but a lot of the schemes have not been fair. They were all made in a hurry basically on the back of a packet of cigarettes and not patched up afterwards.
  • I have paid PAYE for 30+ years.
My PAYE is paid annually every year, so I am excluded from support.
I have not been allowed to work for 4 months and have no income.
My friends here in Leicester are dying from poverty.
The government has blood on it's hands.

If you are paid annually, presumably 31st March, then you will have received this year's payment as per usual based on the business performance of the preceding period.

Reduced business from end March onwards will not have affected personal finances at this stage.  The annual paid may need support in 12 month's time, but there is also ample time to plan for this event.

as do ALL governments during this crisis --- not one got it 100% right
Maybe you (Leicester) should have followed guidance and rules and avoided the local lockdown

As stated above, if you pay PAYE annually then you also pay yourself one annual payment in March for the year so you have some time to deal with this........... of course if you pay PAYE annually and then you pay yourself monthly then you are "non compliant" with HMRC and your plan to save a few pounds on reporting (for 30 years) has left you in a position where you say you need help but at the same time you have already told HMRC that you don't need help (by reporting that you have paid yourself for the year)

Why should someone paid annually have to get a loan, whereas someone paid monthly is entitled to a grant?

And to the "comedian" who said because someone is paid annually, it doesn't matter that they haven't had 4 months of income (as they have just been paid in April using last year's money), what are you proposing they live off this time next year - when they've lost 1/3rd and probably more of their 2020/21 income - fresh air?

    2 posts above mine from @dunstonh .

"As you are paid annually (which is normally in March), you do not require monthly support"
"If you are paid annually, why do you need income for those 4 months?"
