Denied Business Account because I reside in England?!?!

It's what a friend who lives in England told me he was told when he applied last week. I know RBS still have English branches - there are two within 10 miles of where I live. I think this might be a temporary thing now, as the RBS brand is set to disappear altogether: https://www.marketingweek.com/rbs-rebrand-natwest-group-cmo-david-wheldon-retires/EarthBoy said:
Are you sure that's correct? They still have some branches in England so they must still want customers in England, unless they plan to close those branches.colsten said:It might make you feel better, OP, to learn that RBS are also now turning down applications for personal accounts from people living in England.
Their website just says you must be a UK resident.0 -
I live in southern England and last week applied and was accepted for an RBS current account. The debit card and internet login customer number arrived yesterday so it still feels like it's going to happen... I've never had any type of account with RBS before but I am an existing NatWest customer.1

RBS as a brand is set to disappear, not Royal Bank of Scotland; they're just changing back to the full name, instead of the three letters. The name over my local branch, which just said RBS for years, has been changed to Royal Bank of Scotland.colsten said:

Lots of things are being affected indirectly due to devolution. Not all of it has to do with laws but with sentiment and political pressure and behaviour of the separatists. The more things become devolved, the greater the splits become in wider areas than intended.dahj said:
What has UK devolution got to do with banking?dunstonh said:Natwest have split the banking group so RBS covers Scotland and Natwest covers England & Wales.I was denied due to the fact that I lived in England!!! Is this a thing??One of the downsides of increasing devolution and having a brand that is high profile within Scotland.
