Motor insurance for Ireland

Options
I'm planning a trip to Ireland to do some seasonal work for a friend. I know I will still get basic third party motor insurance cover but I would prefer this to be upgraded to comprehensive cover as I will be there a few weeks. My insurance company have quoted me over £130 which seems exorbitant as I've already paid for this effectively and this additional payment is another 40% of the total annual premium that I have already paid. Is there a cheaper alternative way to do this?

Tempcover offer something like this. No idea on price though.

If it's worth doing re fees etc you could cancel your current policy and then choose an insurer that could offer you a cheaper quote, I'd try a specialist overseas-use broker like Stuart Collins.

Whether the faff will save you any money is another matter.

Car insurance in Ireland is phenomenally expensive, hence many do not take it, resulting in more claims that cannot be made against the third party resulting in higher premiums!
