Broadband help

Hi folks,
I need a bit of help. I get really slow broadband speeds from BT although I pay for one of the Halo packages. After a few calls to them it seems to be the distance from the serving cabinet that is the issue and there's nothing can be done and there's no FTTP planned any time soon. A friend told me that every ISP uses the same BT lines so it would be impossible for me to get any better speeds. Am I going to have to just put up with slower speeds or is there an alternative?

Then select additional diagnostic to see what your line profile is and see how that compares to your actual, your BT account should also give your guaranteed minimum speed. If that is low then yes that is all you can get from an Openreach provider. Sometimes one of the LLU suppliers will provide a slightly faster speed but not by much. There are alternatives such as 4G but the signal is often be patchyor maybe there is a fixed wireless provider in your area but that is usually not cheap.

That's interesting, thanks. The speeds are below what the line is capable of, but above the guaranteed speed. Really frustrating when I know others with the same package get broadband that is four times as fast as mine!0

How do you know your line is capable of faster speeds? Just because someone else on the same package gets a faster speed doesn't mean it is possible for yourself. People don't all have the same phone line lengths.

Because I've just followed the steps above...0

Potential is 23mbps, actual was 13mbps, guaranteed in 10mbps...0

Apparently Virgin Media use a different coax connection and is available in the area. They offer up to 1gig speeds, so it might be a case of swapping over.0

Yep, I'm aware of that. As OpenReach have no work planned in the area though, I don't mind.

Out of contract then start a move to VM .0
