Buying a 100% share of your property will mean you don't have to pay rent. Service charges are for a separate thing and still payable.3

I thought it was fairly standard that shared ownership schemes were leasehold anyway; and if you staircase to 100% you still have 100% of a leasehold property. If it truly does pass you the freehold title then there isn't much that can force you to pay, but I doubt it does and if nobody maintains shared facilities you'll soon find yourself living in a bit of a dump...

For what it's worth I looked at a leasehold house once, no shared ownership involved just a straight purchase, but it certainly entailed service charges for shared gardens etc

I staircased to 100% on my first house which was shared ownership. Took about 6 weeks to go through and I acquired the freehold. No more service charge at that point for me but I imagine it depends on the agreement so yourself may be different.1
