staircasing to 100% and still have to pay service charge?

Options
Hi guys, well a little bit about me, im in a shared ownership house which i bought 50% 4 years ago and  2 years ago i staircased to 80% and 2 years later im staircasing to 100% i have my mortage in principle with santander, and now im just waiting. anyone know how long the process will take. cant wait to finally own my own home. the housing people have told me i will still have to pay a service charge because they maintain my road and all 6 houses have to pay, i always thought if i had the freehold then i wouldnt have to pay this does anyone know anything about this?

Plenty of people on modern estates (which I assume you live on) pay a service charge even if their property is freehold to pay for maintenance of common areas etc.  If you've already staircased before i assume you'll have a better idea than most as to how long it takes.

What does the "current situation" have to do with it? It's normal that if you're on a private road, you pay for its maintenance. Nobody else is going to.

Are you taking over the freehold? You may own 100%, but it may still be leasehold.

    I think everyone understood that.

The query was why would the Covid 19 situation impact your service charge.

pretty normal, nothing out of the ordinary, if the council doesn't maintain the roads who do you think will?

Yes, why would that affect the title conditions which will apply permanently to the house?

Service charge covers cost of maintaining all communal areas of development if unadopted by the local authority. I presume that these would have been billed seperately to the rent you payed HA so nothing would have changed
