Virgin price increase, what are my options?

I had a deal with Virgin for my phone and internet and it has just ended after 18 months, my bill for phone and internet has been increased to £49 per month for 100mbs internet and landline.
I have a BT line into the house but there is no socket connected to it, it has been wallpapered over, the wires are behind the wallpaper in the box.
I will look for the socket and reconnect it.
How do I find out what the BT phone number is/was and will the line still be connected to the exchange?

The line is probably disconnected at the exchange, when you do a check with a provider of your choosing they'll ask for an address and they'll know what needs doing with that line, it can probably be reactivated remotely.  If worse comes to the worse Openreach will have to come out and connect a new line but quite unlikely that'll happen.
