Road Tax Confusion

Our road tax expired end June 2020; however we MOT'd our car as usual on 4 June. We have not received any 'reminder' about Road Tax, so was it due end of June, or do we still get 6 months 'grace', as if we had not bothered to MOT it? Can't find answer to this anywhere & want to stay 'on right side of the law'. Any ideas on this?

only the MOT was extended, pay the tax quick!I am not a cat (But my friend is)1

There is no 6 months "grace" for vehicle tax, the 6 month extension applied to your MOT only. You need to tax your car.1

Look hereDon't rely on the reminders in future. Get it taxed quick and you will be OK.

If you pay your ved online by direct debit it will have automatically renewed. They don't send a paper confirmation out just a single email confirming renewal. The email could have gone into your spam folder. Use the link in the post above to check if your car has valid ved on it now.0

Haven't received a reminder (as usual) with online code. It's registered Disabled, so presumably husband will have to go to Post Office with V5 to get it taxed, with my PIP exemption certificate?0

This MOT extension is the thing I don't understand... If your MOT runs out during the 6 month 'extension' and that overlaps with your road tax, then you do not get a 6 month extension! Then there is the question of Insurance... don't you have to be in possession of a valid MOT in order to insure your car?0

The MoT and tax are two completely different things and quite possibly unrelated in terms of renewal month. You don't need an MoT to insure a car, but you do need an MoT to drive a car on the public roads.0

No. You can insure a pile of parts in the corner of a garage.0 -

Tax is separate from MoT and there was no need to extend it - post offices remained open during lock down and the Internet still worked, so there was nothing to stop people taxing their cars as normal. So you still have to tax your car (or Sorn it if it's not on the road).0 -
Are you exempt from VED or eligible fro the 50% rate ? Are you claiming against this vehicle for the first time or simply renewing the existing ? If renewing full exemption it can be done on line in the same way as any other car except there is no payment. You don't need the "on line code" from the V11, you can use the V5 document number.
