would airlines be a good punt as they are going to reach their low point and then once a vaccine comes up they will start to ramp again and you may make a tidy profit
    As an example the:

    International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A.

Have airlines reached their lowest point yet?
Difficult to ramp up quickly when you've cut thousands of staff, mothballed planes, cut routes, closed bases etc. To rebuild is a time consuming and costly exercise.

A share that would respond quickly to news would be akin to the likes of Greggs.

the only way is up once a vaccine is developed, but to get the shares at a low point would be good

Until the bottom is reached. The damage caused cannot be quantified.  The endgame is some way off.

hence why in the speculative thread, who knows, but in theory would be a bargain if you time it reasonably well

I think airlines are worth a speculative punt. Just look at how some people seem to find it impossible to write off just a single year without going to Spain. Which would you pick though - some aren't going to survive.

For a speculative short I'd look at gold. A vaccine would be good for airlines but put a bazooka round through the gold price.

Or Amazon - right place; right time just when software allowed them to scale. The staff are super smart but the IT is shocking and they must be worried someone else might come along who also gets lucky.

What IT are you referring to?  Amazon just announced quarterly revenue of $10.8 Bn from Amazon Web Services.  I really wouldn't be shorting Amazon on the basis of shocking IT.  Personally I wouldn't know about the quality of the staff because all my interaction with them is via their IT.

Woow Apple, Facebook today. You will understand what I mean if you managed to the catch the dip last week. For the stock like this bad news, good news and patient is your friend. They could easily bounce back to a long time high in less than a week.

Airlines is high risk but also high reward. Considering the fact that many of them are still close to March 23 market crash make the upside is much higher than the down side (if they do not go bankrupt).

If you watch CNBCTom Lee head of research from Fundtrat is one of the few analysts who recommend the airlines stock which he called it as an epicentre stock. The advice here is to choose the one with the strongest balance sheet, resonable amount of cash and therefore have a very good chance to survive.

Those who manage to survive will take the share of other airlines and therefore an easy route to recover reaching a pre COVID-19. But similarly if there is a second lockdown in winter, most of them (if not all) will go bankrupt if there is no more support from the government.

Regarding COVID-19 Vaccine stock there is discussion about this in here:

There is no guarantee that a vaccine will be found

Needs a story though. Bombed out companies are going to be easy to find in the months ahead. A vaccine/treatment will boost all survivors to a degree. Some will fare better than others.
