'Gamble' - Amigo, if it gets back to 6p, could easily go back to 10p+ on merest whiff of good news (or it could go chebs up, will disappear), main shareholder dumping his shares at 1% a day, august will be an interesting month.

Really enjoyed reading this thread, and I think this is a great shout.  I've placed a modest limit order after spending much of the morning reading up on Amigo, prompted by this comment.  Octobe also looks to be a pivotal month for Amigo, to see where they are with the complaints backlog.

(Appreciate this is all very un-MSE - I invest in the MSE-approved method via my ISA/SIPP/wife's SIPP, but use my wife's ISA for a couple of small, speculative punts, and treat it as "fun money".  I also hold IAG and Aviva stock currently, which I bought after the market dip following Covid.  Family works for BA / I work in insurance, so felt these companies would eventually return to former glory).

Nio share price is down to 11.82 so may be worth a punt now. Li Auto inc has set terms for the US IPO so this could be another possibility in the Chinese EV market.

I just heard him say you can put a 500 mile charge into his battery in one minute!!!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq-qjBKjjXI
    (6:40 into video)
He actually said 'more than 700 miles, if you want' !    But his car won't be offering that because they won't really want to put that many batteries in it. And the cell he was holding up only had 8 watthours; he said they were planning pilot production to put small batteries into consumer products. For cars, he said on the video it was going to be after 2020, and his first car from his new company next year (if it happens on time) is going to use conventional batteries to start off, because the solid state stuff simply won't be ready.

Lightyear rolled out their 450mile range car at CES this year. Not a super fast charger or high volume production, and would cost you £150k, but the solar panels on its bonnet and roof and boot and wings would add 12km of range for every hour you're driving around. Assuming you were somewhere sunny.

I'll stick with my gas guzzler until something brilliant actually reaches the mainstream

For me, and I've done weeks/months of research / reading, but dyor (I have shares invested in each apart from amigo):
'Safeish long term punt' - AMD, amazing new cpus, finally releasing a  decent GPU, their chips are in next gen consoles, unlikely Nvidia will purchase ARM, taking server market share from intel. I've had a nice 10% rise last week already, expecting it to hit $70 by xmas
'Gamble' - Amigo, if it gets back to 6p, could easily go back to 10p+ on merest whiff of good news (or it could go chebs up, will disappear), main shareholder dumping his shares at 1% a day, august will be an interesting month.
Potential life changer - Avacta, I'm hoping it to at least double over next month or two. Been trading at £1.20 -> £1.40 for last few weeks, been following these and novacyt for months - news expected imminently

AMD is a good investment based on many recent comments from various analysts. Also, this stock is owned by many institutional investors which include. Vanguard, Blackrock, JP Morgan, Wellington Mgmt.

But AMD stock is currently at long time high. Also, you might already own it via your index fund. For a speculative punt, there is no inherent benefit to buy stock at long time high as you could easily get similar stock at any time you want to.

Intel (INT) just saw a significant price drop price in the last few days due to the delay of launching the 7nm chips. So, they are lacking behind their main competitors AMD. Yesterday’s alone the drop was 16.24% in a single day. People aiming to a more speculative punt (possibly high reward) might play a close attention to Intel.  This is a blue-chip company that is unlikely to go under administration. Once they could catch up you will be rewarded. But also certainly also carry significant risk with further drop in price.

    Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd

looks like a good punt as the market leader for chip production

I wonder whether the EM funds cover this company or country

TSM is well represented in EM indexes (3rd biggest in MSCI Emerging Markets Index) and is in fact 17th largest in the FTSE All World.

I would invest in this compared to Alibaba or tencent

If a punt includes boring well-known companies, I have this week increased my holdings in 2 already in my portfolio; and bought shares in 2 newcomers to my portfolio. An additional 2000 shares in Aviva and an additional 300 shares in Experian.
Newcomers are 500 Fisher &Sons' shares; and 300 Unilever shares ( which I have invested in in  past years but are new to my portfolio at this point in time).
My less boring recommendation is in the most undervalued  market in the world now ( due to Covid ): Latin America.  I have always kept shares there which have been steady over several years. Now, they are down but I keep them and have highest hopes on my MercadoLibre shares.

I nearly bought shares in Aviva but in the end went for a mix of L&G and Phoenix. Have you not considered either of these insurers when topping up your stake in Aviva to spread the risk?

Yes, Sally----I certainly did. But, in my case, the balance of my portfolio would have been "uneven" in the insurance sector( where I have several investments) if I had gone for L&G, which I think you have been wise to buy ( tho, I have no great thoughts about Phoenix). Good luck with L&G , Sally---you can tell me in a year how much higher the L&G shares are compared to Aviva  :'(
