Will cancelling national trust DD affect my credit rating?

I have been a National Trust member for several years but now wish to cancel. I am aware that by not getting round to doing this at the start of the year I have probably started a new "agreement" and so strictly am expected to pay the monthly installments for the rest of the year. If I just cancel the direct debit (I have sent them an email telling them I'm going to do this), is there any chance it could negatively affect my credit rating?

A lender determines your credit rating from assessing the data on your credit files.

Only if the NT were to gain a CCJ for the missing payments would it be visible on your files and therefore taken into account.

It would  obviously be much cheaper to settle before it gets to that stage.

  • Ok, thanks, and would I be informed if that were to happen? Presumably they'd tell me in advance if they were going to do that?

They'll send the papers to your last known address, so make sure you keep them updated if you move.
