Re Importing a vehicle you previously had registered in the UK.

I've logged in to HMRC today and looked at the Nova screens. I'm still not sure how I complete this. It assumes you have purchased the vehicle outside the UK and are importing at back. I didn't purchase it in the EU. I purchased in the UK, exported to EU and now want to bring it back. The questions don't fit my situation as it asks for a purchase price and a purchase invoice and the details of the supplier of the vehicle, all of which are not relevant. I can't see anywhere that would allow me to leave a comment and there is nothing in the faqs that covers the reimportation of a vehicle originally purchased in the UK. Will they accept this form with lots of gaps and no explanation of why the various sections have not been completed?0

I've tried to get through the screen where the supplier details are entered and it won't allow the fields to be left empty.0

You did buy it in the EU - the UK...
Put the details in of who you bought it from.1 -
I've tried to do as you suggested but got stuck when adding details of the original supplier because the country (which is a list box and a compulsory field) doesn't include UK as an option. It seems the whold NOVA thing presupposes you have purchased a vehicle elsewhere in the EU (all the other EU nations are in the list apart from UK). I've jsut spent 40 minutes on phone to HMRC. Got through after 25 minutes and call handler didn't know what I should do. Said she'd put me through to transport section, which was just another queue. Their telecom system killed the call at about 40 minutes.0

I have a definitive answer from HMRC. They confirmed I do have to complete NOVA when importing any vehicle. My situation was that I bought my motorcycle (but would apply to any vehicle) new in 2004, exported to Spain in 2018 and brought it back, re imported in July 2020. When you try to complete NOVA it asks for the supplier of the vehicle. I tried to complete this as Chester Harley Davidson, who supplied the bike to me new at first registration in February 2004. The "country" field on the supplier details page is a compulsory field, meaning you can't get to the next page of the NOVA form without completing it, but United Kingdom is not in the list of countries.
Spoke to HMRC this morning and they advised that, for the purpose of completing the form, I am the supplier and the supplier address is my previous address in Spain. The rest of the NOVA form was a breeze to complete. One other tiny detail is that even for a motorcycle there is a compulsory question that only offers two choice which is, is it left or right hand drive. Choose either to enable the completion of that page.
When you get to the end of the NOVA form, make sure you wait for the login screen and log in again to complete the process.
I hope this helps someone else out there faced with the reimport (re-import) of a vehicle from the European Union (EU) as I could find nothing online about this, nor did HMRC guidance notes cover it. It took three calls to HMRC before I spoke to someone who could give me an answer.4
