Producing rental accounts and filing a tax return

I currently pay £640 pa for a set of accounts, tax return completion and filing with HMRC. I am one of those unfortunates who has always had to file a return and did this myself until I inherited the rental property and it got more complex. The complication was Foreign tax withholding for some windfall shares with Santander and Sun Life of Canada. Can I do it myself and save the money and how do I find out how to account for the tax withholding which I have never understood!? Thank you!!

Accounting and self-assessment tax for property rental is VERY straightforward.
If your tax return is complicated by overseas share ownership, might it be easier to sell those shares?2 -
That's a good idea.
Last time I filed my own return I rang HMRC to check my figures and they said 'sounds about right'. That didn't exactly fill me with confidence!0
