Are you sure you even have any type of warranty on a 12 year old car? Or if it covers the repair needed? Most insurance-based warranties like this have so many exclusions that they're a complete waste of time and money.
Seems like you've been very casual in your dealings with him, and he's repaying the compliment by giving it low priority.
OP may well do if it's an independent dealer (as in a proper one, not some bloke dealing off his drive). Most older cars I've bought have had a three month warranty from the dealer. A reputable local dealer will normally honour it as they want to maintain their reputation.

What is this 'module', and does it's failure really render the car completely unusable?
    Probably cooling fan control relay.

I thought there is now an obligation on the trader to sort any fault present or developing at the time of sale.  Not quite sure, but someone here will know the specifics and whether it is likely to apply in this case.

Nowhere NEAR that simple, especially on a 12yo car, but the supplier appears to have accepted responsibility for the fault. That's not the issue. The issue is that they appear unable to sort it in any timely manner.
