We plan to buy a place in Spain when my partner retires in 12 years time. Im already retired - now 54. We’ll sell my house and his share of the former matrimonial home when his children are adults and buy a place in Cornwall and a place in Spain. We would spend quite some time in Spain ( colder months ) and also Cornwall. It would not be a money making exercise, I just like the thought of a place in each country preserved just for us and can afford it. I dont think your idea is silly as long as its fully researched and entered into with eyes open1

Until we know what Brexit really means I wouldn't buy a home in France. Boris's 'oven ready deal' was another lie as there was nothing ready and the Govt. are still in negotiations with the rest of the EU about what will actually be happening after new year. It's unlikely but possible that the French Govt. could impose severe restrictions on foreign ownership, higher taxes or other changes that would make owning a property there a bit of a nightmare for you.I would buy a nice campervan instead.1

I was thinking campervan. I’ve never had one, but people do seem to adore them. Not a long term investment, of course. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
