I'm guessing a iPhone 6s is past it's minimum term.
You could ask them to convert you to EE PAYG and you'll retain your number.
I got this Iphone 6s in August last year on a 24 month contract.

You could do worse than the 4GB/unl/unl 30 day mates rates contract with Plusnet.  If your phone is locked to EE the Plusnet SIM will work without unlocking.
So if I buy a sim from Plusnet, will it work even if this iphone is locked to EE? EE won't unlock it as I only got it last year in August. What if EE blacklist it, will it still work with the plusnet sim?

I am considering switching provider to plusnet and buying a £10 sim, that means plusnet will take over my number / service from EE, but will EE let me switch even if I am still in contract?

You need to speak to EE and explain your current financial problems to them - they *may* be sympathetic.
Many here suggest that if you default on your contract you will get a black mark on your credit file, which will prevent you from getting another contract or any other form of loan/mortgage for 6 (?) years.

    As above...
Definately dont just default on  this contract as you will ruin your credit history and then your plan to get a better phone when you get back into work wont be an option.
Do everything you can to keep this contract running.
If you have to miss payments on anything make it  something that wont destroy your credit history or something where they will come to a payment arrangement.
There must be another option otherwise you will regret this for years to come.

Hi, I have been put on a promise to pay and I need to make the payment by 11 July but not sure if I can pay it as I am going to be struggling. My outstand balance is £149.50 as one is a bill from last month which EE helped me for adding it on to this month's bill. I just phoned them up and the adviser who I spoken to, he said EE have done so much for helping me, he said that if I don't make that payment of promise to pay of minimum of £84.67 then my service will get restricted and I would break my agreement and also my contract. He wasn't rude to me, he was sympathetic towards my financial situation but he said EE only can do so much and now with everything getting back to normal nearly, he said EE are going to look at restriction people of unpaid bills. I can pay the £84.67 but it's the remaining I am going to struggle.

To be honest, I have got bad credit rating anyway, so if I default on EE, won't make much difference as I have got bad poor credit now.

I'm pretty sure that if you are in default with EE then you won't be able to port your existing number across to Plusnet or anyone else.

Update:  Hi, I need some advice, I am struggling to pay my pay mobile bill at the minute as some of you aware due to personal reasons, I have phoned EE customer service today and I have explained my situation and I got told that since I can't pay at the minute, my services will get restricted soon, but I have been advised just to pay what I can, when I can and when the balance is fully cleared then my services will get active again so I am going to clear my debt very soon.

But the lady who I spoken to, she said I can buy a EE pay as you go sim with a different number until my account is cleared with the debt, does anyone know if this is true that a pay as you go sim will work in my monthly pay iphone 6s or have I been given wrong information? if this is true, does anyone have a link where I can buy a sim on EE website, I have looked but I am not sure if I am choosing the right one, it needs to be a different number as it won't work as it will link to my debt account, is that true?
Any advice would be great thank you.

If the phone is locked to EE then it will accept any EE sim, payg included as its only locked to the network and not sim types, it might also accept networks that use EE's signal
