Saving money on BT email address

Options
A few years ago I switched my internet supplier to Gigaclear. I gave up my BT phoneline and use Vonage for the phone. At the time, to keep by BT internet address BT charged me £5/month, now £7.50. Recently, after a scam email about my BT charges, I checked my BT account details and found that they now allow you to keep your email address for free. Can I claim back the charges from when this free service was introduced?

I left BT Broadband in April and now have free email,no other BT products.
    Here's the email received:
You've now got our Basic email service
You've still got a free email service, but some of the features will change.
You'll be able to check emails on your browser (but not on an email client or our app).
You won't be able to create any more email addresses.
You'll only see adverts from BT
You'll need to log in regularly to keep your email account active.

Your emails, contacts, calendar and folders will be there just like before

To keep all the features you have today, you can choose to sign up to our Premium email service for £7.50 a month, payable by Direct Debit. To do that, log in at bt.com/mybt
  • Yes, this is what they now offer but when I switched the basic , free, option was not available. I don't remember them telling us when it was introduced so thought it was worth Martin putting this on the weekly email.
