Lighting: how to shorten flex cable?

Hello
This may be a silly question but can you shorten flex cable and if so how? My new lighting arrived and the flex cable is way too long. Tried to google it but cant find anything useful.

Well obvious answer is with above? LOL.  Most would cut flex to length required and reconnect?

What lighting, table lamp, ceiling light etc? Picture would be useful? Also some more info?

If it's a standard ceiling rose, I think you can just hide pretty long piece of cable inside instead of cutting it.

You'll just need to buy a rewirable plug if the one fitted is moulded on.  Or perhaps not even that if there is an inline switch in the flex.  Maybe post a photo

Looks like Grumbler's solution is the one.

That looks quite heavy? I have a similar light from John Lewis. It has a separate wire to support the fitting and the excess cable is housed within the ceiling rose.

It is heavy indeed. There is a metal chain to support the weight. I knew I could shorten the chain I wasnt aware I can hide that much cable in the ceiling rose.

Thanks a lot for the support.

Alternatively, just form a loop in the cable and clip it to the chain.

Don't rely on the rose to take the weight. If it comes with a hook or mounting plate, make sure it is screwed in to a ceiling joist rather than just plaster.
