Trading on eBay leaves a far more solid audit trail than a Del-Boy style business selling on the local market for cash only, because all the income will have to go through bank accounts and Paypal, and much of the expenditure too, if he is buying stock in bulk for sale.
So, not necessarily a case of 'no income tax, no VAT, no money back, no guarantee'.No free lunch, and no free laptop1 -
At least HMRC know all about eBay income so tax will have been paid or pursued for payment + fines shortly...
