Visa Debit Cards

Anyone know if they have any plans to issue debit cards on their basic bank account, HSBC that is?

Switch/Maestro does not support continuous payments authority (card type direct debits) so 18866 should not have allowed that in the first place, they probably got caught out

The Mastercard debit that is starting to issued here will be accepted anywhere with a Mastercard sign. Maestro is a sub-brand and needs specific acceptance.
It's even more problematic for cards with issue numbers.

When I was in Cyprus my Maestro card was always looked at funny before being swiped while Visa was accepted without a second glance.

There's other basic bank accounts that offer debit cards. If you really want a VISA debit, Barclays and LTSB do one.

Why do you want a basic bank account with HSBC?

You could provide feedback about debit cards on basic bank accounts though. For example, LTSB customers did this, and they eventually offered them.
