Travel insurance help

I hope someone can advise me as to if this sounds  correct or is  what does happen.
In August last year we bought our travel insurance policy. My partner has his medical conditions declared. When Covid became more of a world problem  I got an email on March 11th offering travel disruption extension cover, we paid £19.98 to add it to the policy on the 12th. Three weeks later my partner had a conversation with the doctor and was prescribed Gaviscon for heartburn/indegestion. I rang and informed the company and it was added on to the policy , but incurred no extra cost except an admin   fee.
Today I rang the insurers to check what the disruption policy covers for as it seems we are going after yesterdays news. The lady on the phone  told me that as I made an ammendent when letting them know the medical condition it cancels the cover. Does that sound right. I feel so annoyed that I am being penalised for letting them know something I had to.
Any help would be great, thanks

No does not sound correct.  The reported change should make make no difference to the cover, as it was not significant enough to require any change to the underwriting of the Insurance.

Suggest phoning the Insurers to make a complaint about what you were told.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Staysure  :)  I just find it surprising that this can be right. There might be a mistake from the lady on the phone so I shall see what their reply is.

ok....good to know....the Ombudsman has a link to medical claims....it must be MATERIAL and even for serious changes i.e.an operation on X it slides off the policy after two years.....your taking Gaviscon is not a material thing as hucker points out....why not asprin? Any problems with them come back here. Section 11 on the Insurance Act..... it's written in plain English so don't be scared.

Just an update. I have now spoken to another customer advisor who has checked my policy and he has confirmed that the travel disruption extension cover is still active on my policy and that it has all the benefits as it was purchased before they withdrew it.
The worrying thing is the girl who told me it had been taken off my policy for adding the medical  condition had also spoken to a manager to check, anyway it is sorted out now.
Thank you for your help everyone  :)
