Hello,
I am currently getting paid for my Student Nurse Placements and have had student loan taken from all my pay checks even though I am not due to repay till April 2020 (If I earn enough). The employer is saying tough luck and the SLC have sent two letters to tell them to stop taking it and the employer is saying the have not got them. Last months they took £155 for Student Loan (our band 7 pays less and I am only at band 4 with a esitimated yearly income of £21k if I worked a full year ( I’m only employed from May to August)
I am wondering if there is anything else I can do also it has started making me wonder if they are taking too much of other parts of my pay (NI and tax)

You say not due to repay until April 2020 but is now July 2020?Often student loan repayments are taken based on monthly pay - of at the end of the year you have not earned enough to have warranted paying any repayments you can then then reclaim these repayments. The same can apply to tax if you only work part of a year.0

Confusing - not just should you not be paying at all (if not meant to pay until April 2021) but repayments of £155 pm is far too high if you earning 21k.Is it plan 1 or plan 2 because plan 2 the threshold is higher (~25k) than you earn so you should be paying any repayments. If the student loan company agrees these deductions should not be taken you will get the money back in the end. Is the money actually going to SLC? If so can’t they send it back? If not I agree with you what is the employer doing?Hopefully is just an administrative Mix-up between SLC/employer and they will sort out.You can check NI and tax by using a take home pay calculator online.0
