Best no annual fee cash (or reward) back credit card which is not American Express?

Sorry, I was not aware.jet01 said:
The Aqua reward card which paid 0.5% cash back was withdrawn for new customers in February.Grumpy_chap said:What about Aqua cashback?
I changed to it from the Asda card when they changed from cashback to vouchers.
Hopefully they will bring it back. Aqua are really good to deal with, but slow to increase available limit.1 -
That is fantastic, thank you, I do quite a big shop at Aldi so even if that is the only place that will take it then it is worth having - I might even find they will take it at Morrisons. I just applied and we were approved for "The American Express® Rewards Credit Card" (no annual fee) with a £3,400 starting level credit limit which is similar to the credit options we have on the current ASDA Mastercard. Even better................I applied via the TopCashBack site which should now give me £10 cash back there :-)Emily_Joy said:Aldi is accepting Amex. Moreover, occasionally there are "shop small" offers where you get 5£ cashback for spending over £10 in a small non-chain local shop, e.g. butcher, cafe, etc.

Wouldn't you have been better with the cashback platinum card? Rewards only gives points Doesn't it?Too late now of course lol0

Amex is taken by every supermarket chain, including Morrisons, most (but not all) Co-ops, Lidl, Aldi and Iceland.
The biggest high street exceptions to acceptance are B&M, Home Bargains and B&Q.
If I were you I'd be looking at the Nectar Amex.1 -

Earn miles on all spends, points can be used towards flights (you pay taxes which can be high)
Best to pay cash for flight then use points for a class upgrade and travel in style. Plenty of time to collect points while restrictions are on and think about your 2021 summer holiday
Hi, thank you but we never go abroad since we had our children..........maybe eventually once they grow up and move out :-)

I should have scrolled down a bit more :-)....I think that one only gives cashback for the spend that you do in the first 6 months and presumably gives nothing back after that time and just becomes a standard credit card? With the world as it is at the moment our normal 6 monthly spend is *far* reduced from what would normally be (not bought petrol since the start of April!) so we would probably not get the "best" out of that card if it is only for the initial 6 months that you earn anything off it. The one we are getting, I got the impression that it was only points.......not totally sure "how" to get to the higher points but the first 5,000 come by putting £2K on the card within the 1st six months. I need 20,000 points to get to the point of an Amazon gift card so I will just hold out for that........these systems normally take me 4 years or so to get to point where I redeem them......I think I have been waiting about 4 years now to get what will convert into a £130 of gift vouchers at ASDA after 13/7/20 :-)funkycredit said:Wouldn't you have been better with the cashback platinum card? That is interesting though it does have a £25 pa fee, I think we will keep that one in mind, use the rewards points one that we have just been acepted for and then see how the world pans out from this pandemic so we can evaluate what our "new normal" spending patterns will be and cut our cloth in accordance with that.WillPS said:Amex is taken by every supermarket chain, including Morrisons, most (but not all) Co-ops, Lidl, Aldi and Iceland.

Dont take mse's eligibility guide as gospel, it said I didnt pass when I did.1

That’s good to know. I’ve been thinking of applying for an Amex for a while but have been put off by the fact that eligibility guide on here gives me a low chance of being accepted now, although a few months ago it said my chances of being accepted were very good despite nothing changing on my credit report in the meantime (although guess Amex could have changed their criteria). The Eligibility Checker on Kredit Karma on the other hand still says I have a good chance of getting this card and a few others that MSE say I have a low chance of getting or aren’t eligible for. They can’t both be right. I did enter same income details on both sites so if they are both being fed by up to date information from the card companies don’t understand why they deliver different results.roddydogs said:Dont take mse's eligibility guide as gospel, it said I didnt pass when I did.1 -
Eligibility checkers vary a lot, For example I had a 3/10 chance for a AmEx Gold on their website whereas on the MSE checker I had a 90% chance for the same card.So i decided to apply and got accepted.jet01 said:

Another example is MBNA on their clever check I'm pre approved whereas on MSE I have no eligibility score however on credit karma I have a 95% chance.
So if you have a chance and want the card just apply. If declined leave it a couple months and try again.
