Thank you so much for this advice, Victor.  My maths is pretty good so I should be okay.

    Hi,
why don't you set up a wee spreadsheet, and use the monthly readings you send to EON, that way you keep your eye on usage and payments.

You can set your direct debit to what you want online. Although mine was the other way and I set mine higher as my sons girlfriend moved in with us I wanted to pay more. You should be able to go online to your account and lower the direct debit if you believe you are paying too much on their direct debit manager
I'm with Eon and while they say that you can change your direct debit online, you can't if it isn't within the payment structure they have set for you.  I've tried to lower mine and it will only go to £122. They started me at £50 per month and I wanted to increase it to £80 but they say I should increase to £155. I can't afford that. But I can't set my own DD.

Even if you could set your own DD what happens if it's not covering the cost of the energy you are using ?
More details please - do you have a big deficit and what is your annual consumption (in kWh not £)
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I was with Avro energy happily for 2 years and my DD never went up (I am a very small consumer). It accumulated in the summer like most peoples and paid off any extra in winter. however, I decided to change when I read they were being investigated, more fool me to choose EON.  I thought I had found a really good offer from EON it was fixed-rate and cheaper when I gave them my first reading than Avro DD.

However, since then every time I check it wants my DD to be increased to cover extra usage its summer! what extra usage my heating hasn't been on for weeks!  It says on their website DD can go up or down where is the down?  I gave them an accurate reading when I switched and take the readings myself every time they need one.  If they charged me too little that is their problem the offer that I found on the MSE web page was what enticed me.
I have only been with them a few months 2 readings have been given by me. The only way they know is up.
I would like to know about other people's experiences with EON.  (Good if there are any) and bad
    Thank you,   Mirelle
    Hi mirelle_2 ,

There's some excellent advice on the thread already, so thank you for this.

I agree, please do pop regular meter reads on to your account, this is the best way to keep your account accurate and monitor what you're using.

To make sure accounts are on track, we look at arrangements every 3 months. We only make changes, though, at the mid-point and annual reviews. At the other times, we let customers know if we think there should be a change but leave it up to them to make any alterations.

It look like you're using the Direct Debit manager tool, you can use this tool to change the monthly payments to better suit different circumstances. If the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.

If you do need some further help, customer service channels are open, so please get in touch.

    Thank you

  • I used Energy Club to switch electricity to Green Network, and it is a really appalling company. When I switched my partner to Green Network I checked that he was registered for the Warm Home Discount, they assured me he was. With the previous supplier the payment was applied in December. The payment wasn't made so phoned them again, I was assured that the payments are applied in March. The companies have to apply the payments they receive from the Government by the 31st March. The payment wasn't applied in March and they are telling me that he "Didn't complete the paperwork" They don't have any paperwork to do, this is an automatic payment made to them by the Government, so they are obviously keepimg the money. and cheating a 79 year old man out of his £140. Then to add insult to injury they put his DD up by £20 a month. I am taking this to the Ombudson. How many other Pensioners are they cheating.

This post needs to be submitted as a new thread as it is not relevant to the subject of this one.

It sounds as if your partner may be broader group rather than core group.  If he is not in receipt of the guaranteed element of pension credit, he does need to apply each year for the Warm Home Discount.  I suggest you check your facts.
