I think many have been miss-sold, example selling you a three year 12,000 mile a year for 3 year plan, when you do 6,000 a year and change every two, many brands have now stopped selling them, its a disgrace that they were not covered by the FCA, when many were sold within the total finance loan, many got you to pay on a separate credit or bank card away from the finance in order to avoid any scrutiny, Martin should be on this one

When you then sell the car at two years, the third service covered by the plan stays with the car and the new owner gets the benefit, no?
The mileage is probably not relevant as the service is based on time or mileage, whichever comes first.
  • We took out an Emac service plan in 2018 for my wife's Citigo to pay for 3 annual services. The first service (a minor one) took place in 2019. This year due to Covid the second one was delayed and then Lookers Skoda in Stockport would not pick the car up or supply a courtesy car so we had to find an alternative. We cancelled with Emac and received a payment equivalent to 13.6 monthly payments. Assuming the first service cost 12 payments (which was a minor service) that would leave 16 payments "in the bank". We have not received any explanation for the discrepancy. We were originally told by Lookers that we could cancel at any time without penalty and that any money left "in the bank" would be returned. I guess we didn't read the fine print. The chances of some sort of change of motor vehicle, garage, etc. occurring within the 3 years makes an Emac service plan a bad risk.

  • Some service plans include breakdown insurance so factor that into the total cost and it becomes more attractive.
