If you would normally dealer service anyway then it can be reasonable value. Plus it means it's already paid for so you don't need to remember to save up for it/have the funds set aside - it depends on how well you normally budget your finances. But don't take the first offer from the dealer ... you can get further discounts if you hold out for a few weeks. Which dealership/brand are you buying from?0 -
well nomad we were told we had to use a toyota dealership re battery warranty when we bought the prius but i will check again...1

What is a genuine part? If Mann make oil filters for VW some will be stamped VW and some will be stamped MANN. Is only the one stamped VW a genuine part?0

When VW order parts from a third party, they specify the tolerances etc - that is not privileged information, as they set the parameters for the manufacturing.0 -
I think you are saying only the one with a VW stamp on it is considered genuine.0

What if you write the car off or sell it? The discount is not big enough for me.0

That always works out.0 -
In the old days I think people used to go to the dealers for 'genuine' parts but with the advent of the internet and a bit of research it becomes clear where parts are sourced from. VW don't make filters or oil. You can find out who makes them for VW and buy them much cheaper from the original manufacturer. I was just wondering for the purpose of a warranty what genuine meant.0

That always works out well when you need warranty work done or are hoping for a goodwill gesture for a failure post warranty.0
