Ubereats have duplicated my order and charged me twice, then refused to refund.

Hi. A  couple of weeks ago I placed an order using ubereats.
There was no email or text, just a message on the screen saying your order has completed with an estimated delivery time.

My order came, then about 5 minutes later a second order came. Due to social distancing I did not engage with either of the drivers. Both times the order was just left at door.
I saw that a second one had been delivered so went out but the delivery driver was already in his car and drove off as soon as I stepped out.

I immidiately tried to contact Ubereats but only could contact via email. I told them I had been charged twice for 1 order. They replied with,  'An authorization hold is a pending charge placed on your account while we confirm your payment method' and that it would be resolved within a few days. I contacted them again a few days later, to which they replied they are sorry that I mistakenly placed a second order and they can't do anything now.

I checked the order receipts which came with the delivery, the times were 1 minute apart.

It's clearly a system error, which is a fault of their website but they are trying to blaim me.

Can I get this order refunded?

How many times did you press purchase, given you say you did not get any confirmation email?

I went to checkout, filled in my card details and clicked the place order button. Just what I'd normally do. Waited maybe 30 seconds, im not sure but felt a while. I actually went away from computer for several seconds because it was taking long to load. Came back and it was on the your order is being prepared screen.
I think you pressed and refreshed your fault
Disapointing comment. Did I say that I 'pressed and refreshed' anywhere? Please don't make things up and spam my thread. And even if I did refresh anywhere, thats not commiting to make an order, if it does place a duplicate order then it's a fault in their website.

What do you actually want they fulfilled both orders you eat the food and know you want refund. I have placed many orders with uber wats and i never had a duplicate order maybe you pressed it twice or refreshed. I normally see uber eats offering a goodwill gesture but this is a clear case of pressing or refreshing otherwise we would see more of this problem on internet.

Please do something better with your life.
They fulfilled both orders, 1 of which I didn't agree do. Thats Fraud.
Secondly I didn't eat both orders, I ordered as much as I would normally eat. The second order was left on my doorstep where it stayed for a while as I wasnt expecting it.
After I found out it was there I emailed Ubereats and put it my fridge whilst waiting for a reply, to which they said the second charge would be refunded. And said nothing more.
By your logic they should be paying me for storing there food in my fridge.

Seriously you got the 2nd order, so nothing illegal happened. Stop wasting time with this and get a life.
    Oh the irony

Search 'Tom Scott Two Generals Problem' into YouTube as he gives a very similar example in the video.

It was takeaway food so generally doesn't last more than a few days. They couldn't collect and send it out to another order anyway. So once they had delivered they couldn't resell it.
